MOT View: Roberts comments contradictory as Leeds suffer from same old problems v Wigan
Leeds United were once again frustrated in the Championship on Saturday, losing 1-0 at Elland Road against Wigan.
Marcelo Bielsa only made one change in the second half, despite the Whites struggling to open up the away side who sat behind the ball after scoring directly from a corner.
That was Tyler Roberts returning from injury, and although he looked sharp, there was nothing the Welsh international could do to affect the result.
Roberts has claimed that those sort of games won’t happen too often between now and the end of the season.
“We’re obviously feeling very down, we created the chances, dominated and it just didn’t go for us,” he told the official club website.
“We’ve shown we can dominate any game and create chances against anyone, every team has these days and I’m sure it won’t happen many more times.”
It is very contradictory, considering that Leeds have been struggling with the same old problems for nearly two months now.
Leeds have only won twice since the collapse in the 3-3 draw with Cardiff back in December, form which has seen the chasing pack cut the gap to the automatic promotion spots to three points.
The Whites dominated Wigan more than they did Millwall in the week previous to this defeat but still lost. Bielsa’s men had 76.3% possession as well as having more than treble the shots on goal, and completing 379 passes more [WhoScored] – stats that have been familiar in games during the past two years.
Roberts claims that it won’t happen many more times, so either he hasn’t been watching during his injury or he simply forgot that this has happened more than a handful during the past two months alone.
