MOT View: Reported Leeds target must show more to prove he is worth mooted free swoop
On the face of it, Leeds United are pretty well-stocked in the striking department.
With Patrick Bamford, Jean-Kevin Augustin, and Tyler Roberts all competing for one spot up front, Marcelo Bielsa is hardly short of options.
But regardless of his current setup, if an opportunity to sign an exciting young prospect with Championship experience on a free transfer presents itself, it would be foolish to not at least consider it.
According to the Daily Mail, the Whites are in the running for Reading striker Danny Loader, who could be available for nothing in the coming weeks after his current employers had to withdraw a new contract offer because of the financial impact of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Crystal Palace and Swansea City are also said to be keen on the 19-year-old, with Wolves also reportedly coming close to snapping him up last summer too.
But if Leeds are to make a move in the coming weeks, he needs to probe that he has something to offer.
The teenager has a big reputation, and was part of the same England youth team as the likes of Phil Foden, Jadon Sancho, and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
But he has struggled to make much of an impact at senior level, bagging just one goal in 28 Championship outings.
And his stats from this season leave a lot to be desired too.
Loader has only managed 107 minutes of action in the league, but has a shot accuracy rate of 0%, as well as cross accuracy rate of 0%, and a dribble success rate of 0%, as per Wyscout.
Admittedly, he hasn’t had much of an opportunity to prove himself, but if he is to properly kick on, he needs to make the most of the chances he is given.
Unless he starts doing that soon, you would have to question whether he is actually good enough to play for Leeds.
