MOT View: Rejuvenated Leeds ace shows what Whites were missing in blinder v Millwall
Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich has been openly criticised recently for his form over the Christmas period.
The Polish international has looked tired, and after starting every game under Marcelo Bielsa this season, it would have been no surprise to see him rested.
Kalvin Phillips’ suspension made sure that wouldn’t happen, and it appears that the 29-year-old has thrived on that added responsibility.
After being slammed by fans on a number of different occasions this season, Klich looked rejuvenated against Millwall in the 3-2 victory on Tuesday.
The Pole had a blinder and was everywhere both in attack and defence. If it wasn’t for a shocking miss in the final 10 minutes, he would have added a goal to his display.
It was the defensive work of Klich that impressed us the most. Our favourites stats site, All Stats Aren’t We highlighting just how effective the midfielder was off the ball for the Whites – completing NINE ball recoveries.
Klich also managed five tackles according to WhoScored – something he has only managed once this season, the 1-1 draw with Derby where Leeds dominated for the entire 90 minutes and somehow didn’t pick up three points.
The added responsibility obviously benefitted Klich and he had a blinder at Elland Road – something that could help him find that consistency that he had throughout last season.
That second half is exactly what Leeds need to be like in every game between now and the end of the season. Klich’s energy highlighted what the Whites have been missing off the ball recently.
Hopefully, the 3-2 win over Millwall can kickstart another good run of form for both Leeds and Klich, who could have a massive say between the Whites earning promotion or falling at the last hurdle once again.
