MOT View: PL club resuming training means Bielsa could bring squad to Thorp Arch early
It was suggested by the EFL on Wednesday that Championship clubs like Leeds United should not return to training until the 25th of May.
The Athletic journalist Phil Hay reported on Thursday that Marcelo Bielsa was raring to go at Thorp Arch as early as Saturday, although that may have been pushed back now.
Leeds’ squad have been keeping up their fitness levels at home during the enforced break with strict routines using equipment sent by the club.
The recommended training return date could be altered though, with Henry Winter confirming on his personal Twitter account that Sheffield United have resumed at their training ground.
Winter revealed that the Blades are in socially-distanced groups of four starting in their car-park, going through circuits on to the astroturf.
That clearly shows that although it isn’t recommended, clubs can still bring their players back into their bases if they are happy to do so.
Something tells us that the Leeds squad would be more than happy to do just that, with it looking more and more likely that the final nine games will be completed.
Bielsa and the Leeds squad will still remember last season’s disappointment and will want to get back into training to make sure they leave no stone unturned to finish in the automatic promotion spots.
Before the break, prediction expert Nate Silver shared that the Whites stood a 98% chance of promotion and they will want to get over the line as quickly as possible [FiveThirtyEight].
