MOT View: New Leeds United signing surely set for role in under-23s this season
Leeds United continued their signing streak on Tuesday, confirming the arrival of Charlie Allen from Linfield.
The Northern Ireland sensation arrived at Elland Road, putting pen-to-paper on a three-year deal which will see him remain in Yorkshire until 2023.
Allen became the youngest player to represent Linfield at senior level, making his debut at the age of 15-years-old – impressive.
The club announcement states that Allen will initially link up with the under-18s, but it surely won’t be long until he is with the under-23s.
Looking at the current state of affairs in the academy, there is a clear hole in the final third after Carlos Corberan left the club.
Bobby Kamwa finished last season up top after Ryan Edmondson was injured, and the latter has since moved to Aberdeen on loan.
Kamwa is more of a winger and should return to that role once the Premier League 2 kicks off.
Allen was included in Linfield’s squad for their Champions League qualifiers recently, and that is pedigree that could be wasted in the under-18s.
Joe Gelhardt also confirmed his move to Elland Road this week, and journalist Alan Nixon has shared that he won’t be leaving on loan.
The 18-year-old could be utilised by Marcelo Bielsa in the Premier League squad, and if he is, there is a massive gap that can be filled by Allen.
Allen will be getting his head down in training over the next few months and will be determined to make sure he finishes the season in the under-23’s squad.
That is something we expect to see when we’re back at Thorp Arch reporting on the action for you – keep your eye out for that.
