MOT View: New Ben White report will have Leeds fans tearing their hair out

There are plenty of Leeds United fans who believe that Ben White has unfinished business at the club.

White was a huge part of the promotion-winning side and Leeds wanted to bring him back to Elland Road on a permanent deal.

That didn’t happen, despite Leeds bidding £30m for the young centre-back.

MOT Leeds News columnist Paul Robinson insisted the club should make him their number one target in the summer.

However, there’s been a very unwelcome update reported by Man United journalist Jonathan Shrager, co-founder of Streety News.

He claims that Man United have made contact with Brighton about White as the club continues to monitor him ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Express picked the story up and said that Man United are on the lookout for a “ball-playing” centre-back – and White certainly fits the bill here.

This is bad for Leeds for two reasons.

Firstly, if White was to go to United, it would be a real sickener for Leeds fans, convinced that Marcelo Bielsa made him the player that he is today, only to miss out on him in the Premier League.

Secondly, if Leeds are still interested, teams like Man United coming in for him will only drive his price up – in all likelihood past the level where we could realistically stay in the hunt.

Also, the thought of Ben White in a Man United shirt is one that makes us feel decidedly queasy. Hopefully, this is one transfer report that doesn’t go anywhere.
