MOT View: Nate Silver prediction update highlights drastic change in promotion race for Leeds

It was a superb weekend for Leeds United in the Championship yet again after their 4-0 win against Hull City.

It’s hard to remember the last time more than three teams in-and-around the play-offs picked up three points in a single weekend as West Brom this time tasted defeat.

Wigan managed to pull off a shock 1-0 win at the Hawthorns, as Brentford, Preston, and Bristol City all dropped points once again.

Tyler Roberts’ two goals at the KCOM Stadium ensured that Leeds are now only one point behind the Baggies in the race for the Championship title and more importantly automatic promotion.

Prediction expert, Nate Silver has updated the Championship probabilities on his website FiveThirtyEight after yet another action-packed weekend.

It is now predicted that Leeds stand a 96% of earning automatic promotion to the Premier League this season, which is eight per-cent more than the leaders West Brom.

Interesting, the Whites are now the favourites to win the league this season. Marcelo Bielsa’s men now have a 64% chance of finishing top of the pile.

That highlights the drastic change only one weekend can have in the Championship, with Leeds now the in-form side in the division after a less-than solid New Year.

We all know anything can happen in this league though, and complacency must not set in – we don’t believe it will with clear lessons having being learnt in the past year at Elland Road.

Teams in-and-around Leeds still have each other to play, and with only Fulham left to play from the top-six – a win against the Cottagers will put us in a very strong position.
