MOT View: Middlesbrough could hand Leeds significant promotion boost with win v Forest

Middlesbrough could hand Leeds United a significant promotion boost on Monday evening when they welcome Nottingham Forest to the Riverside Stadium.

Jonathan Woodgate’s will entertain Forest starting in the Championship relegation zone, but as they proved against the Whites last week – they are up for the fight.

Leeds managed to pick up the three points in a 1-0 win, but it was far from straight-forward, something Forest may find on Monday night.

Mateusz Klich’s strike was enough for all three points, and Leeds followed that up with the 4-0 thrashing at Hull – something that put the Whites five-points clear of Fulham in third.

Nottingham Forest go into the clash on Monday nine points behind Leeds in fourth-place. Should they win, they will have the chance to turn that gap into a three-point one on Friday evening against Millwall.

Middlesbrough could help keep the gap at nine-points with a vital win in their battle to escape relegation, whilst handing a significant boost to Leeds.

Leeds only had 57% possession at the Riverside, which is more than the home side but actually quite low for Marcelo Bielsa’s men. On top of that, Boro also managed to have more shots on goal according to Sofa Score, something which rarely happens.

A similar performance could give Woodgate’s men more luck, and in Leeds’ case, hopefully, three points this time around.

Should Forest lose at the Riverside, it could hand Leeds a significant boost in that the only team in touching distance of them could be Fulham – a side they welcome to Elland Road in a couple of weeks.

A win over Huddersfield and Fulham in the next couple of home games could put Leeds well on their way to promotion, but this is the Championship and we’ll take nothing for granted until it is guaranteed.
