MOT Stats: £7m Leeds-linked player is one of Europe’s leading players in his position
Leeds United have been linked with a move to sign West Brom shot-stopper Sam Johnstone and it would be a smart piece of business if the Whites can pull off a deal.
According to the Sun, Leeds and Brighton are both keeping tabs on the West Brom man ahead of a potential move.
Should the Baggies fail to avoid relegation this season, Johnstone might be tempted by another Premier League move after proving his worth in the top flight.
Johnstone has done exactly that and has played a starring role for West Brom, despite their poor start to the campaign.
Goalkeepers can often look like the star player for relegation-threatened teams, but Johnstone is displaying some great form in the Premier League.
As per Wyscout, no goalkeeper has faced more shots this season than Johnstone, who has had 101 shots against him.
That perhaps says more about the Baggies defence, but what is more impressive is his total number of saves, which is 71.
No goalkeeper in Europe’s top five leagues has saved more shots this season, as per Wyscout.
Johnstone, who is reportedly valued at £7million, also ranks inside the top 10 for prevented goals this season at 4.7 which highlights just how worse off West Brom would be without him between the sticks.
Performing above and beyond, Johnstone is also conceding less per 90 minutes than his 2.17xCG (expected goals conceded) too.
Illan Meslier, who it must be said, was exceptional against Burnley last time out, is more than playing his part for Leeds United this season.
However, the Whites will no doubt be looking to add more competition to their ranks going forward and Johnstone’s Premier League form is clearly not going unnoticed.
In other Leeds United news, this 18-year-old could earn his second senior appearance in the next couple of weeks.
