MOT View: Leeds would be smart to start affiliation with Yorkshire rivals after journo update

Carlos Corberan finally waved goodbye to Leeds United this week in order to take charge of Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town.

The Spaniard was in charge of the Whites’ under-23s at Thorp Arch and even worked closely with Marcelo Bielsa during his two-year tenure at the club.

Corberan had been offered other jobs in the past couple of seasons, but the chance to manage a club in the Championship was too good to turn down.

Leeds will now need to find a new face to lead their under-23s into the Premier League 2 next season, with the Whites’ academy now category one status.

Many players have benefitted from loan spells away from the club, and now with their recent leader at an established second-tier club, things could get even easier for Leeds to blood their talents.

The Sun journalist Alan Nixon has reported on Sunday that the Terriers could take Robbie Gotts on loan for the next campaign.

Not only that, but they could also take an interest in Joe Gelhardt if the Whites can seal his signature from struggling Wigan once the transfer window opens.

Gotts could benefit massively from a loan spell next season, with chances set to be even more limited in the Premier League. The young midfielder was recently crowned Academy Player of the Year at Elland Road, and it is now time for him to prove it in the senior game.

Leeds would be very smart to start an affiliation with their close rivals who have proved they are a great club for loanees with Arsenal’s Emile Smith-Rowe this season – the scorer of the goal which gave the Whites promotion.

Who else could leave? Mateusz Bogusz has already admitted that he will seal a loan exit next season in a recent interview, and he could definitely fill the gap left behind by Smith-Rowe at Huddersfield.

Having a club that can guarantee Leeds youngsters game time in the Championship shouldn’t be overlooked, and Corberan could continue to help his former club for many years to come.
