MOT View: Leeds U23s ace could have fallen down pecking order, squad for Reading clash revealed

Leeds Live has revealed the Leeds United matchday squad that Marcelo Bielsa has chosen for the Reading clash at Elland Road on Saturday.

There are no surprises, with the South American having confirmed he has the same squad available to him from the 1-0 victory over Bristol City last time out.

That means there are only spots for two under-23s players – Jordan Stevens and Olly Casey, meaning the likes of Pascal Struijk miss out.

Both Casey and Struijk started for the under-23s against Wolves in the 1-1 draw on Friday evening. Casey was taken off after half-an-hour at Bootham Crescent, which was the first clue he could be involved on Saturday.

Struijk, on the other hand, completed 90 minutes alongside Gaetano Berardi and Ian Poveda as their chances of featuring look slim.

The Dutch colossal has made a couple of substitute appearances in the Championship against Hull, and most notably Cardiff when the Whites collapsed to draw 3-3 at Elland Road back in December.

Carlos Corberan will have been impressed with his captain on Friday evening, with Struijk putting in a commanding performance against Wolves.

That obviously doesn’t mean much to Bielsa though, and Struijk’s snub from the matchday squad against Reading could prove that he has fallen down the pecking order in West Yorkshire.

Struijk did come in for some criticism after his role in that draw against Cardiff, and although he has responded positively, it may be some time before he returns to the first-team pitch.
