MOT View: Radrizzani could have offered hint over future of Leeds ace with fitting tribute

Andrea Radrizzani has offered a fitting tribute to Leeds United defender Gaetano Berardi for his role at Elland Road this season.

Speaking at the end of the season awards ceremony, the Whites’ chairman questioned the future of the Swiss defender after his recent injury.

Berardi’s contract has come to an end at Elland Road this season, and he picked up an ACL injury against Derby that will see him ruled out for a maximum of nine months.

Radrizzani wasn’t able to give a definitive answer over the future of Berardi, before showing a commemorative video for the enforcer.

“As you know, Gaetano has been here six years,” he told LUTV.

“Last week, he got a bad injury, so we don’t know what’s going on in his life, but we prepared something to remind him he is Leeds and that he is one of us despite whatever decision we take.

“He knows he can count on me and on you as well. Gaetano thank-you for your commitment.”

No one can question the passion of Berardi, we all know that he has fallen in love with Leeds, and the city loves him back.

This comes down to common sense though. As much as we would like to keep the experienced defender at Elland Road, there is no need to offer him a new deal when he would not be able to play for half of the year – it would be financially wrong.

Leeds have managed to keep 14 clean sheets in the 22 games that Berardi has featured in, and there is no doubting that he has played a massive part in promotion – something which could be the final thing he does in a Whites shirt.
