MOT View: Leeds paying out jaw-dropping PL bonuses but players & Bielsa worth every penny
Leeds United are already ploughing through the money they’re getting for securing promotion to the Premier League.
Price of Football podcast host Kieran Maguire said that players and management were set to get a share of £19m on promotion.
The Sun’s transfer expert Alan Nixon has broken that down further, claiming that the players alone are sharing £10m.
That’s a huge amount of money – equal to one Jack Harrison. The Man City player is joining on another season-long loan with a £10m option built into the deal.
The sum might seem obscene taken out of context and to the ordinary man on the street.
But Andrea Radrizzani is set to pocket an instant £100m in TV rights and that’s just the start of it for Leeds.
Radrizzani facilitated the promotion but it’s Bielsa and the players on the pitch who executed his plan in football terms.
The players have worked exceptionally hard all season and through lockdown to ensure they were in great shape for when they got back.
Bielsa is obsessive about football and spends all his time in his small flat plotting tactics and triumphs for Leeds.
It seems only right that he and the players should share in the rewards.
We think it’s yet another example of the club being run properly.
Maguire said the bonus payouts were bigger than he’d seen for most clubs and we’re happy about that.
The squad has a real sense of togetherness and if Bielsa stays – as expected – this should see the club in good stead in the top-flight.
We’d be more than happy for another big bonus to be agreed if the club can qualify for the Champions League in the next three years.
