MOT View: Leeds get first hint of return as government reveal planning underway
As each day passes, many have their fingers crossed that Leeds United will be returning to action sooner rather than later.
The EFL has already confirmed that their preferred plan of action is for the season to be concluded in each of their divisions although no date has been set as of yet.
Coronavirus has meant that Leeds haven’t played since their 2-0 victory against Huddersfield sent them to the top of the Championship with nine games left to play.
Panic set in slightly over the past week after the Dutch FA decided to abandon all their divisions without any relegations or promotions – something which led to SC Cambuur’s manager claiming that Leeds should visit European court if it happens in England.
Dominic Raab was speaking on the Andrew Marr Show on Sunday where he confirmed that planning is underway for football and competitive sport to return.
“It will be very difficult because of the level and scale of interaction,” he said via Birmingham Live.
“I think the professional sport may be different because of the scale of testing that they would be able to introduce. We do want to look when it is safe and responsible to allow more outdoors activities to take place.”
Many have come to the conclusion that they won’t be able to watch Leeds in person once sports return, and therefore may miss out on a possible promotion to the Premier League.
As long as it happens we would be delighted, with the government also nervous about potential celebrations should it happen, more restrictions may be brought in.
Either way, we all want football back when it is safe. This isn’t that, but it is definitely a big step towards the government considering when and how to bring it back.
