MOT View: Leeds fans get big boost after BBC journalist post about Man Utd fixture
There won’t be any Leeds United fans at Anfield for the first Premier League game in August but there was some good news from the fixture list.
BBC journalist Simon Stone said, “Current guidance is that ‘some’ fans might be allowed into OT [Old Trafford] from October.”
Stone said that Man United’s home games in October are Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal. He then name-checked the Man United v Leeds game, which is set for December 19.
It means that there’s a very good chance that some Leeds fans will be able to watch the first game back in the Premier League against Man United.
That’s the stuff of dreams at the moment and if there’s good progression from fans going to the first games in October, it could mean even more fans being allowed in by December.
The Leeds allocation will likely be small. We’ve heard of reduced numbers from 15%-25% in stadiums and that could see just a few hundred Leeds fans get the opportunity to travel to Old Trafford.
However, we’ll take anything we can get at the moment.
The game at Old Trafford is the tastiest away fixture on the calendar and we know that if it’s a ballot, a ticket to go to the game will be the best Christmas present that Leeds fans can get.
Actually, the second-best. The first would be a win.
The return at Elland Road isn’t until April – the hope is that even more fans will be back in stadiums by then. And the atmosphere will be electric.
