MOT View: Leeds fans could relax as Haaland pictured after Euro league cancelled
The news that the Dutch FA had cancelled the Eredivisie with no relegation or champions on Friday will have shaken many Leeds United fans.
It means that Ajax will not be crowned champions despite being top of the table once the Coronavirus break was enforced.
More and more leagues are starting to end, and it could mean that Leeds could miss out on promotion to the Premier League. The understanding is that the FA and EFL would like the season to be concluded as things stand.
If Leeds fans were worried, they could relax by taking a look at Borussia Dortmund’s official Twitter account. The Germans released a photo of Erling Haaland returning to training on Friday, a sign that football could be edging closer to a restart in Europe.
That would be the best-case scenario, with training in England not expected to return until at least the middle of May to give clubs a chance to get ready for a June return.
Those games would be played behind closed doors though, with the Yorkshire Evening Post revealing that could be the case until October.
Obviously, that wouldn’t be the best-case scenario but we have to admit that we are that desperate for promotion now we, as a fan base, would take it any way possible.
Leeds are on the verge of ending their near two-decade absence from the top-flight and it would be typical if that was to be ended by the EFL abandoning this campaign.
According to prediction expert Nate Silver, Leeds stand a 98% chance of earning automatic promotion should football return, it’s almost a given. [FiveThirtyEight].
The news of Dutch football certainly would have worried some fans, but the post of Haaland could definitely have eased a few nerves in West Yorkshire.
