MOT View: Leeds need transfer floodgates to open as first of reported possible 3 deals completed

It’s happened – Leeds United have signed a player.

It has been confirmed via Leeds’ official website and Twitter account that Italian goalkeeper Elia Caprile has joined the Whites on a permanent basis from Chievo.

Caprile, 18, was first linked with a move to Elland Road on January 7 when Italian outlet L’Arena reported that he was set to join the Championship giants.

It seems as though the Italy Under-18 international will be added to Carlos Corberan’s Under-23s squad and is not a first-team addition.

But still, Leeds fans will now no doubt be praying that the transfer floodgates have opened.

That is because The Athletic journalist Phil Hay reported earlier this month that Caprile could be the first of three signings at Elland Road this month.

Leeds are eyeing three new additions this month and although Caprile is one for the future, he is seen as one of them, so fans can expect there to be more activity to come.

It remains to be seen who the next two players through the door will be but one of them is likely to be a winger while the other has to be a centre-forward.

Leeds are light in most areas of their squad but Financial Fair Play regulations, the limit on loan players and the fact that Marcelo Bielsa likes to have a small squad means that any more than three is unlikely.

But still, Caprile’s arrival means that we should expect to see the floodgates now open and hopefully there’ll be another two signings made before the January window slams shut in 10 days’ time.

In other Leeds United news, Kevin Phillips has claimed this striker can be the difference for the Whites in their promotion bid after an offer was tabled.
