MOT View: 19y/o ready to make a bigger impact in Leeds first-team

Leif Davis is the latest youngster getting the nod at Leeds United. Marcelo Bielsa has seemingly taken a shine to the left-back, introducing him late on in the last two Championship games.

The 19-year-old has featured in the home victories over Queens Park Rangers and Blackburn Rovers, and he has taken his chances and run with them – literally, up and down the left flank.

Against QPR, Davis used his pace magnificently to skip past his man on numerous occasions. That is a great attribute to have and Leeds have utilised him very well so far.

Everybody remembers Bielsa’s famous “Very good Davis!” line from pre-season, and you can hear the odd copycat in the Leeds stands every time he steps onto the pitch.

Featuring both at left-wing back and further up the field, Davis has been a hugely valuable player for the under-23s, and he’s looking more and more like he’s ready to make a bigger impact in the Leeds first team.

Davis was thrown in at the deep end last season when making his debut in the famous 3-2 win over Aston Villa, and he has come on leaps and bounds since.

The 19-year-old has come on for a total of 13 minutes this season but has already averaged 0.7 tackles per game according to WhoScored – a number which translates into 13.8 per 90 minutes.

That is exactly what Bielsa will expect of the Leeds youngster as he looks to break the opposition flow late on in games.

If he continues to push on and impress, we don’t think it will be long before Davis gets a nod into the starting XI.
