MOT View: Leeds could be given upper hand on WBA as worrying Bilic report emerges
The Championship has been labelled as a two-horse race by many this season between Leeds United and West Brom.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men regained top spot in their last game against Huddersfield and were one point clear of the Baggies in the race for the title.
There was a clear moment of respect between Bielsa and Slaven Bilic after the 1-1 draw back in January, as the two managers have masterminded their sides to the top of the table.
That respectful rivalry could end sooner rather than later though, with Turkish outlet Sabah reporting that Fenerbahce have entered talks with the Croatian boss.
Bilic has experience in the Turkish league and could be tempted to make the switch from the Hawthorns in the near future, although that seems unlikely.
If for whatever reason Bilic did leave, it would certainly hand Leeds a big advantage in the hunt for promotion and the Championship title.
West Brom were looking like the strongest team in the division in the first half of the campaign, but some poor results recently handed Leeds the ascendency.
According to prediction expert Nate Silver, Leeds stand a 98% chance of automatic promotion and a 73% chance of winning the title. Compare that to West Brom, who are realistically the only other side who have been given a chance of competing. The Baggies have an 88% chance of promotion – the only other side above 50% [FiveThirtyEight].
Either way, West Brom are much better with Bilic and him leaving could give Leeds the upper hand, no doubts about it.
