MOT View: Kinnear suggests Leeds have tied up huge commercial deal amid ‘fantastic’ 20/21 update
Angus Kinnear has suggested that Leeds United have wrapped up a deal for Adidas to take over as the club’s kit manufacturer for next season.
The Athletic journalist Phil Hay reported in February that Leeds had a deal in the bag for Adidas to replace Kappa in the summer but until now, there had been no solid suggestion about it from the club.
However managing director Kinnear has now revealed that the club has agreed on their kit designs for the 2021/22 season.
Kappa’s deal with Leeds expires once this season ends and there has been no word about them extending their agreement with the club so it is pretty much expected that the Whites are teaming up with Adidas from next season onwards.
Kinnear wrote for the Yorkshire Evening Post website: “There was a semblance of normality as we signed off the fantastic kit designs for the 2021/22 season.”
Leeds’ deal with Kappa was due to expire in the summer but with COVID-19 causing the campaign to be delayed indefinitely, the club will continue to wear the Italian sportswear company’s kit until their final nine matches are played.
After that, Adidas seem to be taking over and fans have already been taking to Twitter to make their own concept kits.
Supporters were drooling over designs made by Twitter user @lhuaftc and we would love to see something of a similar ilk once the official designs are made public.
Leeds will more than likely be a Premier League club next season and they will definitely look like a Premier League club with kits donning the Adidas emblem on them.
It is a major commercial deal for the club that has shown it’s growth in popularity by the prestige of companies it is doing business with.
