MOT View: Journo suggestion in dream signing report makes total sense for Leeds

There will be many eyes on the summer transfer window should Leeds United eventually earn promotion to the Premier League.

With Marcelo Bielsa in charge, it would be no surprise to see this current squad thrive in the top-flight, but surely the majority of fans would want some fresh faces at Elland Road.

One area that could see change is the goalkeeping department, with Kiko Casilla still in the middle of his racism ban.

There have been question marks over whether or not the Spaniard should play for the club again once that ban has concluded, and that would leave the club with Illan Meslier as their only option should his move be made permanent.

Leeds Live have asked a couple of journalist their dream signings from each Championship club, and Beren Cross suggested bringing in Jack Butland.

“I know, I know it seems too simple and obvious,” he wrote.

“United may need a goalkeeper. An England international is looking for a route back into the top flight and has the technical ability needed”

Meslier has certainly impressed during his loan spell, a move which could be made permanent for only £5million in the summer [The Athletic].

Cross’ suggestion makes total sense though. Butland may not have been in the best run of form in recent years, but he has bucketloads of international and top-flight experience, and a move away from Stoke could be exactly what he needs in his career.

Should Casilla’s Leeds career be over, Bielsa would surely like an experienced head to come in and offer competition to Meslier – something Butland would do and surely he would be interested in a move back to the place where he has already spent a year on loan at in his career.
