MOT View: Jim White shares what PL insider has told him, potentially huge boost for Leeds
Leeds United fans are waiting on bated breath to see whether or not Marcelo Bielsa’s team will be able to continue with their march towards promotion.
Leeds are top of the Championship, seven points clear of third and have just nine matches to play in their bid to return to the Premier League after a 16-year absence.
After the Eredivise was declared null and void last week, there has been increased anxiety among Leeds supporters that the Premier League and EFL will follow suit in the coming weeks with the coronavirus pandemic refusing to loosen its grip on the United Kingdom.
TalkSPORT and Sky Sports host Jim White has now shared some good news for those concerned Leeds United supporters by sharing what he’s been told by a Premier League insider.
White said: “A Premier League insider says ‘best case scenario’ remains resumption, beginning June behind closed doors, finishes mid-July – 4/5 weeks off- start again end August or early September. Government said to be ‘keen’ but ‘it’s not straightforward’.”
The EFL are bound to do whatever the Premier League does, especially with clubs in the Championship, and with the Government said to be “keen” on the idea of resuming play in June, that is a huge boost to Leeds’ promotion hopes.
We won’t ignore the part where the Government say “it’s not straightforward”, because that goes without saying.
No one can accurately pinpoint a date, or even a week or month, when football will be able to resume safely but still, this is promising news and something that should allay any concerns that Leeds fans picked up last week.
