MOT View: Ex-coach of reported Leeds target makes Real Madrid claim, transfer no-brainer?
Former youth coach of Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis has claimed that the reported Leeds United target could play for Real Madrid.
João Tralhão has heaped praise on the 20-year-old, admitting that Luis can already be considered as an elite European player.
ESPN reported recently that Leeds are tracking the midfield sensation, with Benfica happy to let him leave in a loan move with an option to buy.
Tralhão considers Luis as an exceptional defensive player and compared him to the likes of Fernandinho of Manchester City.
“Florentino is a young player who has exceptional talent,” he told Bernabeu Digital.
He went on to suggest that the Portuguese youngster could not only replace Casemiro in the future, but he could also do it now.
“We have to take into account that Casemiro is an extraordinary and very important player for Real Madrid,” Tralhão added.
“However, if the club’s intention is to find a young player to make the transition, I see Florentino as a logical option not only for the future but to act immediately.”
TuttoMercatoWeb has reported that Leeds are one of four clubs to have requested information on Luis.
It is suggested by the Italian outlet that the 20-year-old would be considered as a luxury gift for Marcelo Bielsa should he earn promotion to the Premier League.
A midfield three that could potentially include Kalvin Phillips, Mateusz Klich and Luis is certainly something we can get behind.
Luis is certainly a bright talent. According to WyScout, the youngster completes 6.4 interceptions per game – a crucial area in Bielsa’s high-pressing system. Compare that to Phillips, he only completes 4.72.
Either way, if these are the sort of transfers Leeds will be looking at after promotion, we could be in for one great summer.
