MOT View: Footage proves many furious Leeds fans got it all wrong about one incident v Boro
Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford is all out of goals but he was all out of luck in the game against Middlesbrough last night too.
In one passage of play it looked like he had to score as Luke Ayling squared the ball back, with the goalkeeper stranded and Bamford just one yard out.
In real-time, it looked like it could possibly go down as one of the worst misses of all time.
And frustrated fans were really quick to pile on.
There were tens if not hundreds of tweets like this from Leeds fans last night.
However, replays showed that the ball actually came off Ryan Shotton’s leg and ricocheted into the waiting arms of Aynsley Pears.
One fan posted the footage but decided to put a different spin on it saying, “Bamford actually stops Shotton’s OG.”
Strictly speaking, it’s true but that’s obviously not what Bamford was trying to do.
It was actually a brilliant last-gasp bit of defending from Shotton who had two enormous slices of luck – the first being that the ball came off Bamford rather than going in the net, and the second being that Pears was in exactly the right place at the right time.
It’s massively frustrating but imagine how Bamford feels?
He must think that nothing is going for him at the moment but he’s still out there every game, putting a shift in and running his heart out for the badge.
Yes, we need goals from him – now more than ever with Jean-Kevin Augustin out with a hamstring injury – but fans need to get behind him.
And, if you’ve got time to send an abusive tweet, you’ve definitely got time to either delete it or put another one out saying you got it all wrong.
The problem is, the ‘miss’ has been picked up and written about by nationals like the Express.
That’s not going to help him and the bottom line is, this miss was not Patrick Bamford’s fault.
