MOT View: Eye-opening Bielsa stat highlights importance of Leeds scoring first goal
The clear Achilles heel of Leeds United is that they fail to convert the numerous chances they create in each game.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side once again picked up three points in the 1-0 victory over Bristol City on Saturday, but it could have been by a much bigger margin.
Leeds had 20 shots on goal, and although Robins keeper Daniel Bentley was in great form, the Whites should have been more clinical.
Thankfully, Bristol were kept at arm’s length. It was another three points secured after scoring first in the Championship under Bielsa.
The Yorkshire Evening Post reported on Monday that Leeds have taken the lead on 41 separate occasions in the past two seasons – going on to win 36 of those.
That is seriously impressive and highlights the importance of the Whites taking the lead in games. They have only lost once after doing so, Wigan last season – a game we all wanted to forget very quickly.
With 13 games remaining, if Leeds were to take the lead in atleast 10 of those they could be well on their way to securing 30 points. On a season already full of twists, that could well be enough to secure promotion.
Looking at the remaining fixtures in the Championship, Leeds definitely have the best run in on paper of the teams currently in the top-six.
A recent graphic on Twitter revealed that the Whites only have one side left to play from the play-offs – Fulham at home. Compare that to West Brom, who still have the likes of Brentford, Fulham, and Bristol City to face up against.
