MOT View: EFL statement finally has some kind of update for Leeds fans

It has been almost a month since Leeds United beat Huddersfield before the Championship season ground to a halt due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Since then the EFL have confirmed that matches will be postponed until early April and then the end of April.

Now it has been confirmed in their latest statement that matches will be postponed “until it is safe to resume”. In other words, indefinitely.

It is no surprise that this has happened because it is hard to see how a country that is set to be in lockdown for another week and a half can have it’s football back just a couple of weeks later.

But it is about time that the EFL released a statement that actually said anything.

Wednesday’s statement was a prime example as people will no doubt be sitting around, waiting for news about the state of the season and up pops the EFL with their latest statement.

Maybe there’s something useful in it? Maybe there is some kind of actual update?

However that wasn’t the case as after a meeting among senior representatives of the EFL, Premier League, PFA and LMA, there was no decision made about anything.

What was the point in that?

At least we now finally have some kind of news to sink our teeth into. Football will not be back any time soon.
