MOT View: Eddie Gray praise for fans proves exactly what Leeds will miss in Premier League
Eddie Gray has claimed that the atmosphere at Elland Road in the past year has been the best he has ever seen at Leeds United.
The Whites cruised to the Championship title this season to seal their promotion to the Premier League, a campaign they will have to start without fans.
Ever since Marcelo Bielsa arrived in West Yorkshire, Leeds fans have sold out Elland Road at every opportunity in the league.
Gray made the bold claim in a recent interview with the Yorkshire Evening Post, admitting it is down to the attacking style of play on show.
“They’ve played some tremendous football this season,” he said.
“I’ve said to people in the past that I think the atmosphere at Elland Road over the last season or so has been the best I’ve ever known it.
“I think that’s down to the football they’ve played, the confidence they give the fans with the way they were playing and how they approached games.”
It’s a bold claim from Gray, who has been at Leeds for the majority of his life and through some of the best memories including European football, but it just highlights how much the Whites will miss their fans in the Premier League.
Leeds averaged 35,321 fans every single home matchday in the Championship, and that was better than 10 Premier League clubs managed last season.
Boris Johnson confirmed recently that test events for fans to return to sporting events have been cancelled, with COVID-19 continuing to keep football behind-closed-doors till at-least October.
The Premier League restarts on the 12th September, meaning that the Whites will be without their passionate crowds for their critical opening set of fixtures.
In other Leeds United news, Darren Gough has claimed that Whites would take a big gamble by starting this mainstay in Premier League
