MOT View: Contracts report on Leeds rivals could prove Whites in best place for promotion
There are many negative outcomes that could come out of this suspension for Leeds United, including potentially missing out on promotion.
The general consensus is that many EFL clubs want to finish this season whenever possible, with the FA already adjusting their rules to go past June.
Outside of that, there are potential problems regarding the contracts of players which run out at the end of June. That could be a problem should the season go past that date.
Leeds Live have looked into each side and how many players they have that could be out of a current contract at the end of this season.
Looking at our nearest rivals for promotion West Brom and Fulham, it shares that the Whites could be in the best position to move forward into the Premier League.
West Brom currently have eight players who could be free-agents. Notable names such as Dara O’Shea, Lee Peltier and Kyle Edwards are in that category, with two of those young players who have made an impact this season for Slaven Bilic.
Fulham have six of their own that could be released, Denis Odoi included – a defender that has made 26 appearances this season.
Compare those to Leeds who currently only have Gaetano Berardi on the verge of his deal expiring in the senior squad, with the Whites in a good position to storm into the Premier League.
Andrea Radrizzani has been busy in terms of handing out new deals to players such as Liam Cooper, Stuart Dallas and Mateusz Klich in the past couple of years.
In Berardi’s case, Phil Hay has revealed that the club are willing to offer him a new deal at Elland Road – one that would mean that Marcelo Bielsa could go into the Premier League with every senior player that helped him achieve just that.
That could suggest that Leeds are in the best position out of the chasing pack to adjust to life in the top-flight next season should they earn it once the season eventually returns.
