MOT View: Bielsa keeps it real, turns up to Leeds black tie dinner in tracksuit
Leeds’ 100th birthday celebrations were in full flow last night with a special black tie Legends night at Elland Road – a snip at £200 a ticket.
Plenty of the greats from Leeds’ past were there, along with the current first-team squad and owner Andrea Radrizzani.
The very best bit of the evening? Marcelo Bielsa turning up in his training tracksuit.
The Square Ball tweeted a photo of Bielsa next to Radrizzani and said, “Marcelo is there tonight at the black-tie gala dinner… in his tracksuit!”
Bielsa made it into the official photograph as well, still in his tracksuit.
You can’t imagine anyone else getting away with this, but Bielsa is his own man and we can’t imagine him in a tux.
He’s been pictured walking around Leeds and shopping in Morrisons in his tracksuit, but this is probably the best photograph we’ve seen of him.
He’s a football man through-and-through, and as ordinary fans peered into the goldfish bowl of Elland Road last night, wondering how people can afford to spend £200 on a dinner, Bielsa would have given them all cheer.
The corporate side of football is a necessary evil and it’s certainly not going to get any better in the Premier League if we get promoted.
But, in Bielsa, we’ve got a manager who’s doing his job for the game and for the fans.
He’s said before that Leeds’ responsibility is to bring happiness into the lives of people who don’t have much.
He was at it again last night.
