MOT View: Bielsa update could prove Leeds 20y/o not impressing in training after video released
Leeds United released a clip on their official YouTube account on Wednesday of the squad training ahead of the Yorkshire derby against Huddersfield Town.
There was a real emphasis on Tyler Roberts after his two goals against Hull City on Saturday, and spotted within the squad was also Ian Poveda.
The January signing was on the bench for games against Millwall and Wigan after arriving but has not been involved since in a matchday squad.
Many Leeds fans have been left questioning what was the reason behind signing Poveda from Manchester City to see him play with the under-23s.
Marcelo Bielsa was questioned about his next matchday squad for the Yorkshire derby on Thursday, and he revealed that it will be the exact same as the one from the victory against Hull – meaning no spot for Poveda.
BBC journalist Adam Pope confirmed that neither Poveda or Jean-Kevin Augustin will not be included for the clash at Elland Road.
With Poveda being in the thick of things in first-team training, as made clear by the recent video, he must not be impressing Bielsa enough to make him think he needs to bring in the 20-year-old.
With the winger not being included against Huddersfield, he will most likely start for the under-23s against Barnsley on Monday afternoon in his next chance to try and change Bielsa’s mind.
Jordan Stevens will keep his place on the bench this week, so that will need to be used by Poveda as motivation for him to try and force his way into the first-team squad.
