MOT View: Average point totals could show Leeds need this many wins for promotion
Everybody remembers the heartbreak of last season, Leeds United missing out on promotion despite being in control of the Championship for the majority of the campaign.
Marcelo Bielsa has already acknowledged the need of the Whites fans to reach the Premier League and reiterated how important it would be to the city at Elland Road.
Leeds are currently sat in the automatic promotion spots once again, with a three-point gap to Fulham that could and should be much bigger.
The Birmingham Mail has taken a look into how many points it has taken to finish in the top two in the past seven seasons as we approach the business end of the campaign.
It has been revealed that 85.5 points is the average to finish in the top-two with only a couple of teams in the past decade finishing below that total.
Leeds currently sit on 59 points. That could mean that Leeds need to win nine of their remaining 13 fixtures to secure promotion – something that could be seen as quite straight forward.
Leeds’ current form could send shivers down the spine of any Whites fan, but they have been back to their best against Brentford and Bristol City.
Looking at the index of remaining fixtures, the ball is certainly in Leeds’ court. The Whites have the so-called easiest run-in of teams currently in the top-six, with Bielsa’s side only needing to play Fulham in the play-offs.
Bielsa’s men need to take advantage of their upcoming games against teams in the lower part of the table, with games against the likes of Reading, Middlesbrough, and Hull coming up.
