MOT View: 10 minutes was all that was needed to see big potential of rarely-seen Leeds teen
Oliver Casey has only played 10 minutes of senior football for Leeds United but it is already clear how much potential the young defender has.
Casey, 19, came off the bench in the closing stages of Leeds’ 2-0 win away at Huddersfield in December due to a defensive injury crisis in Marcelo Bielsa’s senior squad.
Although it was only a short appearance, the Leeds-born teenager managed to impress fans with his outing.
Stats by WyScout prove that the praise for Casey’s display was well-deserved.
He won both of the defensive duels he was involved in, as well as recovering possession three times and winning one aerial duel.
Casey also only had to attempt four passes but found the target with each one.
It was only a 10-minute-long appearance but Casey didn’t put a foot wrong and that bodes well for him going forward.
If Leeds win promotion to the Premier League then it could be more difficult for him to break into Bielsa’s first-team but a loan spell away from Elland Road could be on the cards.
And based on what clubs will be able to see of Casey in the Championship so far, they would have every reason to believe he’s someone who could do a job for them.
Casey’s impressive displays have also carried over into the Under-23s and if Bielsa has used him once already, there’s every chance he will want to use him again in the future.
