Max Wober ‘set for Leeds United return already’ after ‘big worries’ at Bremen

Leeds United may have an issue on their hands regarding Max Wober at Elland Road.

Wober joined Werder Bremen on loan from the Whites this summer after struggling for minutes in LS11 last season.

Daniel Farke didn’t trust the Austria international, and it wasn’t surprising to see him leave, but fans would have arguably preferred a permanent sale.

The 27-year-old centre-back arguably has no place at Elland Road after Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw’s signings, but could potentially be on his way back.

Wober picks up a knock after Leeds United issues

Wober picked up a knee injury during training at Bremen, according to BILD.

The news outlet reports in its print edition (6 August, page 10) that the Austrian defender had to be treated for a long time after a collision with Patrice Covic.

It’s been claimed that there are “big worries” at the Bundesliga outfit as they diagnosed the centre-back with a bruised knee.

While the German club are yet to find out the extent of the 27-year-old’s knock, he has a history of similar issues, undergoing two knee surgeries at Elland Road.

Wober would like to leave Leeds permanently, but Bremen could potentially cut short his loan spell if his fitness issue is serious.

The West Yorkshire outfit should have sold the centre-back this summer when they had the opportunity, as the recruitment department may have to figure out a solution for his future once again.

Farke has defensive solidity at Elland Road

Bijol will miss the game against Everton in the Whites’ opening Premier League fixture of the season at Elland Road on 18 August.

The ex-Udinese defender has shown his qualities during pre-season and will undoubtedly be a valuable addition for Leeds.

Farke relied on Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk as his first-choice centre-backs in the previous campaign, but they will have to fight for their places this time.

Ethan Ampadu and Bornauw give the German manager ample options for his backline, and supporters in LS11 will hope that’s enough to avoid immediate relegation to the Championship.
