Max Wober transfer decision now a certainty after what happened in Leeds v Derby
Leeds United defender Max Wober was a standout performer on Saturday and his performance showcased why the club cannot sanction his sale.
Rumours emerged at the end of November linking Wober with an exit from Elland Road in favour of a return to RB Salzburg (Salzburger Nachrichten) but his importance was demonstrated on 7 December.
Having scored for Leeds against Derby, his value to the team cannot be undermined and a sale in January would cause a significant drop-off in quality in the defensive department.
Daniel Farke was full of praise for the defender after the 2-0 win, claiming it hasn’t been the “easiest start to the season for him” but admitting he was “rock solid defensively”, as quoted by Dewsbury Reporter [7 December].
Leeds United must strengthen in January, not weaken
Although Wober may not have featured regularly, his quality was on show against the Rams on Saturday afternoon.
If Leeds are to get promoted, retaining the talent in their squad across all areas will be vital to those hopes while also strengthening where possible.
Simply put, any sale of Wober would weaken Leeds in terms of defensive depth with him able to occupy several positions across the backline.

However, there has to be a balance. Wober has been starved of game time so far this season and making sure that he features regularly enough will be key to keeping him at Elland Road.
While there will be feasible replacements out there in January, there is no need to sell and all focuses should be on utilising the window to add players to the squad.
