Mateo Joseph ‘finished’ at Leeds United as last-gasp news emerges at Elland Road
Mateo Joseph could be running out of time to prove himself as Leeds United look to make some last-gasp transfer deals before 3 February.
Despite a strong start to the campaign, finally being given an opportunity by the manager, the 21-year-old has just one goal since October, which came in the 7-0 win over Cardiff City on Saturday 1 February.
He needed just 19 minutes to hit the back of the net, but with Leeds already putting five past their opponents at this point, the floodgates had opened for Joseph.
The goal should do wonders for his confidence. However, he has not started any of the Whites’ last six Championship matches, with Joel Piroe being trusted through the middle now.
And Joseph’s spot on the bench may now be at risk after the latest transfer news emerging at Elland Road, with a Premier League gem now being targeted.
Leeds United enter into Marc Guiu transfer race
According to The Sun on Sunday [2 February, page 55], Leeds are keen on adding Chelsea’s Marc Guiu to their ranks before the transfer window slams shut on 3 February.
The Spaniard, who has netted six times in 12 games since arriving from Barcelona in the summer, could be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge on loan, and he would be the perfect replacement for Joseph.
It could be vital for Joseph’s development that he leaves on a loan spell of his own, searching for consistent minutes in the starting XI, whereas Guiu would benefit from experiencing Elland Road every weekend.

The young Chelsea star would learn from the likes of Piroe, Dan James and Manor Solomon, especially the latter two who have dropped down from Premier League teams to star in the Championship.
With just a few hours of the winter window remaining, a lot of business would have to be completed for both deals to go through but it seems like transfer activity is finally heating up at Elland Road.
In other Leeds United news, a Sky Sports journalist revealed what he was told about Junior Firpo.
