Marcelo Bielsa closer than ever to Leeds United return as ‘breaking point’ hit with Uruguay
Marcelo Bielsa could be on the verge of leaving his post as head coach of Uruguay’s national team.
Leeds parted ways with Bielsa in February 2022, which then saw a chain reaction of events that eventually led to the Whites’ Premier League relegation the following season.
Daniel Farke is in desperate need of results, with pressure mounting on his shoulders to deliver performances in West Yorkshire.
Leeds are once again in trouble of returning to the Championship, but all hope may not be lost as the stars are starting to align for an emotional Bielsa return.
This comes after recent developments regarding his relationship with Uruguay’s national team, which appears to have reached a “breaking point”.
Growing ‘discontent’ around Marcelo Bielsa’s future with Uruguay
Bielsa was admired for one reason or another at LS11, whether it be his mannerisms on the touchline or the passion he showed to the Whites fans.
Farke has come under fire for his comments on Leeds supporters, but Bielsa never underestimated the power of the Peacock army.
- Bielsa was appointed Leeds boss in July 2018
- He had a win percentage of approximately 49% with the Whites
- Bielsa ended Leeds’ 16-year absence from the top flight after achieving promotion in 2020
On Wednesday, Uruguay were thrashed 5-1 by the USMNT, and despite it being a friendly, there is growing tension after a winless November international break from Bielsa.
The Athletic shared an update on the situation via their X account with an excerpt highlighting exactly how a Leeds return is possible.
Journalist Felipe Cardenas said: “Marcelo Bielsa’s cold demeanour toward his players and his staunch defence of their poor performances presents a disconnect that may have finally reached its breaking point.”
With Farke‘s future now up in the air, everything is pointing towards Bielsa soon saving the day once again at Elland Road.
Daniel Farke will not last more than five games for Leeds
Leeds look doomed with Farke, and although the 49ers have pledged their commitment to the German head coach, we all know how this is going to end up.
There is simply no way that Farke makes it through the next five Premier League fixtures for Leeds without receiving the sack.
To be honest, the fact that Paraag Marathe and Co. think the Whites even stand a chance with Farke in the upcoming fixtures is laughable in itself.

Leeds fans would surely take Bielsa back in a heartbeat, and a reunion truly looks closer than ever now.
There are plenty of twists and turns yet this season, but one thing is for sure, and this is that Farke will not make it till the end of the campaign.
