Marathe ‘set for major Rangers conflict’ after new Leeds United admission

Leeds United celebrated their Championship title on Monday as they paraded the trophy around the city.

Manor Solomon’s late goal against Plymouth on Saturday ensured the Whites won the second tier with 100 points.

It was no doubt an impressive campaign from Leeds, who will now return to the Premier League after two years outside the top flight.

Now, there is hope from the Elland Road faithful that the Peacocks can really push on and return to their former glory days.

Chairman Paraag Marathe has now hinted towards further success at Leeds, but this could come at a cost. elsewhere.

Marathe wants Leeds United to be ‘among Europe’s elite’

Aside from promotion, one of the biggest stories in recent weeks has been the 49ers’ imminent takeover at Rangers

Both sides are hopeful that the takeover could finally see them return to their glory days after years of decline.

However, there is a growing fear that either Leeds or Rangers could be a feeder club for the other to help them meet their respective ambitions.

Now, Marathe’s recent statement has suggested that Leeds will be getting the bulk of the backing instead of Rangers from the 49ers as he aims to return the club to “one of Europe’s best”.

As quoted by Mail Online (5 May), Marathe said: “This is a journey and this is not the end. We have to keep going.

“This is what Leeds does. We are going to have some difficulties, but we are going to get where we want to go and we are going to be one of the best clubs in all of Europe.”

This no doubt suggests that more money will be pushed into Leeds this summer, but questions will now be asked about where this leaves Rangers.

Leeds United and Rangers conflict will only continue to grow

It is hard to see how the 49ers will manage to massive clubs in Leeds and Rangers to the satisfactory of both sets of fans.

Both clubs will demand that their club is seen as the prize asset and will want big budgets to see their dreams come true.

If this does not happen, conflict is inevitable and that will affect the other club as well.

While it is a good sign that Marathe clearly wants to invest in Leeds further, if it isn’t followed with money being pumped into Rangers, it could end badly for both clubs.

Hopefully, once Rangers’ takeover is completed, this potential conflict is quickly resolved.
