Liam Cooper to make contract decision now as Leeds United transfer update emerges
Daniel Farke will be hoping that Liam Cooper decides on his Leeds United future very soon after the latest transfer update at Elland Road.
According to Beren Cross [27 June], the 32-year-old’s departure is not a certainty this summer despite his contract expiring at the end of the month, with Farke offering the player a new deal [Leeds Live].
While it is believed Cooper would be handed a similar role as last season, which is not ideal for the defender, the Leeds manager needs the veteran to put pen to paper on an extension.
Due to Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu being the preferred centre-back partnership, the Scotland international only made eight Championship starts last term, having to come to terms with a spot on the bench.
Another player in a similar boat was 21-year-old Charlie Cresswell, though it appears the youngster could be about to leave Elland Road on a permanent deal, which would leave Farke lacking for defensive options.

Liam Cooper needed at Leeds United as Charlie Cresswell decision made
Some fans are becoming increasingly worried about Farke’s centre-back partnership ahead of the 2024/25 season, especially with Rodon’s future up in the air.

Although the Welshman is said to prefer a move back to Elland Road, as per Yorkshire Evening Post, any movement is yet to be seen over a summer transfer, which would leave Ampadu and Pascal Struijk.
Cooper’s current situation is not an ideal one, of course, but considering his depth of knowledge and experience, the Whites could use someone like him in the team as they target promotion to the Premier League at the second time of asking.
