Leeds were right to offload Mateo Joseph after what has happened in Spain

Leeds striker Mateo Joseph was desperate for a move to Spain this summer.

The 21-year-old seemingly did all he could to push for an Elland Road exit, and Joseph was eventually sent to Real Mallorca on a season-long loan.

Leeds might not necessarily have wanted to offload the young Spaniard, but a loan was eventually deemed to be the best deal for both parties, given the circumstances.

However, given what has happened in Spain, it now appears as if Leeds were right to offload Joseph before the transfer window closed.

Mateo Joseph struggles to make an impact at Real Mallorca

Joseph has been given plenty of opportunities to impress at Real Mallorca. He has made six appearances already this season, including four from the start.

However, he is yet to trouble the scoresheet in Spain, and he hasn’t registered an assist yet either.

Joseph was introduced as a 69th-minute substitute in Mallorca’s 1-0 win against Alaves on Saturday, but he only made five passes, three of which were successful.

In the Championship for Leeds last season, Joseph made 40 appearances, although most of these were as a substitute. He scored three goals and made three assists.

Now, speaking to the Spanish press, he has already outlined his need to contribute more for Real Mallorca.

He told Cope: “I am self-critical and I have to give much more to the team there. But let’s go for it, this doesn’t stop.”

Will Mateo Joseph play for Leeds again?

Joseph had some disrespectful things to say about Leeds before jetting off to Mallorca. His professionalism was lacking during his transfer saga, and he has made zero goal contributions for his new club.

At this moment in time, it’s difficult to see the Spaniard wearing the Leeds shirt in a competitive game again.

If, for some reason, he wants to try and revitalise his career at Elland Road, Joseph will likely have to apologise to Daniel Farke and prove he’s willing to give everything to the cause.

He’ll also need to improve his form in La Liga. Leeds already have plenty of strikers battling for a place in the team, so there’s no room for a youngster with a bad attitude and a worse goal contribution record.

Even if Farke has no interest in using Joseph next season, it’s still in Leeds’ best interests that he performs well at Real Mallorca.

A good season in Spain will help to boost his transfer value should Leeds want to sell him.
