Leeds United will be glad to hear of Alberth Elis’ ‘obvious’ exit

Jesse Marsch has made a number of improvements to the Leeds United squad but there is one position where he still needs to make a signing.

The American manager has made a number of additions in midfield with Brenden Aaronson, Tyler Adams, Marc Roca and Darko Gyabi but he is yet to bring in an out-and-out striker to challenge Patrick Bamford.

Luis Sinisterra can play there if required but Marsch will want a proper striker to play with and that could end up being Bordeaux talisman Alberth Elis, who was linked with a move to Elland Road by O Jogo on 9 June, page 19.

The Honduras international is facing an uncertain future now though as Bordeaux have been relegated from the top tier to the third tier of French football due to financial problems which means his exit seems inevitable.

“It is obvious that Elis is going to leave Girondins, it is a matter of having patience,” Elis’ agent said, as quoted by Hondudiario. “The transfer window is just beginning, the club’s situation is difficult, we are working for that.

“They are talking to many clubs because when all this happens, the situation opens up a range of opportunities, and the player and the family are very calm, analyzing everything that is coming.”

This might be our best chance to sign our much-needed number nine this summer with every other potential target likely to cost a heap of cash compared to the problematic Bordeaux.

We cannot trust that Bamford will be fit consistently throughout the season and it is a dangerous plate to put yourself on when your only backups are youngsters with very little senior experience.

There is no reason for us not to try and make this deal happen so let’s get on with it before any other side realises the bargain on offer.

In other Leeds United news, another of our summer targets has suffered an untimely injury but that should not halt our advances.
