Leeds United vs Sunderland to tell everything about Facundo Buonanotte future at Elland Road

Facundo Buonanotte has had a nightmarish start at Leeds United after his loan move in the winter transfer window.

The Argentina international must have surely hoped for better prospects at the Whites after his struggles at Chelsea, but that hasn’t been the case.

After the 21-year-old’s appearances off the bench against Everton and Arsenal in the Premier League, Daniel Farke seemed to lose a bit of faith in him.

The Brighton & Hove Albion loanee was given another opportunity in the FA Cup fourth round win over Birmingham City at St Andrew’s, but that only seems to have made things worse for him.

Leeds United can’t justify Facundo Buanonotte return after Sunderland snub

Buonanotte has failed to make the Leeds squad for the last two league games against Aston Villa and Manchester City.

There’s been no room for the Argentine playmaker even on the bench as Farke looks to end the season on a high and avoid relegation.

If the attacking-midfielder is once again absent from the team against Sunderland on 3 March, then that will surely tell fans everything they need to know about his future at Elland Road.

There would be no reason for the Whites to bring Buonanotte back in the summer if the German manager continues to snub him.

While Brighton may be willing to sanction the youngster’s exit at the end of the season, he could potentially be forced to look away from the West Yorkshire outfit.

Buonotte may yet have a chance to make a place for himself in Farke’s plans due to underwhelming performances from other players.

Brenden Aaronson has been especially poor for Leeds in recent weeks, and it would make sense for the German manager to replace him in the starting lineup for the upcoming matches.

The Brighton loanee could potentially be handed more opportunities to make a case for his continuity at Elland Road until the end of the 2025-26 campaign, but that’s surely a tall ask.

Buonanotte arguably needs time to settle at the West Yorkshire outfit before starting to show his true potential, but the playmaker doesn’t have a lot of time, with 10 Premier League games left.
