Leeds United transfer stance could backfire on Daniel Farke
Leeds United have had exactly the season they would have hoped for so far as they sit at the top of the Championship at the halfway point in the campaign.
Daniel Farke is well aware that promotion is the expectation at Elland Road this term but with his side sitting one point clear, he will feel as though they are well on their way.
There is still plenty of football to be played, though, and it looks like it could be another tight race at the top of the second tier going for the automatic promotion spots.
This means the German boss will have to add to his side during the January transfer window to ensure he has the squad strong enough to deliver his aims.
With promotion rivals already hard at work, all eyes will be on Farke to get moving too.
Daniel Farke has to be ruthless at Leeds United
Goalkeeper Illian Meslier has been linked with a move away this month with Manchester United one of the sides named to be interested in him [GiveMeSport, 29 December].
This may have come as a surprise to some given he has made a number of errors this term that have impacted the Whites, including in his side’s 3-3 draw with Hull City on Saturday (4 January).
However, writing in the Yorkshire Evening Post (8 January), Graham Smyth admitted he would be “stunned” to see the 24-year-old depart Elland Road ahead of the second half of the campaign and instead, expects him to be the number one choice until the end of the season.

While you don’t expect to see the boss throw his goalkeeper under the bus, his blind loyalty must be worrying for some supporters given Leeds would be in an even healthier position had it not been for the costly errors Meslier has made this term.
Unfortunately, there have been too many errors this term which could prove to be the difference between automatic promotion and the play-offs and failing to even bring in healthy competition to push Meslier could prove to be even more costly than any addition this month.
In other Leeds news, Thorp Arch sources have said selling one of United’s players last summer was a “blessing in disguise”.
