Leeds United move for Rabbi Matondo falls into place amid overnight Rangers development
Leeds United may be a step closer to signing Rabbi Matondo as Rangers appear to have identified a left-wing replacement.
The Whites have been linked with the Wales international over the past few weeks and are still weighing up a move [Football Scotland, 19 August].
Any deal for Matondo would cost in the region of £2million, the report suggests, which is more than affordable as far as Leeds are concerned after selling a number of key men.
United can deliberate all they want, but they need to make a move for a winger now. And if Matondo has been identified as the man they want to bring in, they have been given a big boost in that pursuit.
That is because according to Viola News overnight [20 August], Rangers are looking to strike a deal for Fiorentina left-winger Josip Brekalo.
Both players notably play in the same position, so it appears the Scottish side have their replacement – or upgrade, depending on how you look at it – lined up.
Many will sigh at the thought of Matondo coming in on the back of losing Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter in attack, but this is the stark reality for Leeds.

Unless the club want to go out at pay £13.5million to Norwich for Jonathan Rowe, this is instead the market they are shopping in after missing out on Premier League promotion.
A deal for Matondo certainly seems to be there waiting to be struck, and it will be better to bring in the speedy wideman than not bring in anyone at all, which is looking increasingly likely at this stage.
In other Leeds United news, Don Goodman would not be surprised to see a Whites player axed by Daniel Farke.
