Leeds United transfer news as Glen Kamara trains alone in Rangers twist

Leeds United have received a boost in their pursuit of Rangers’ Finnish midfielder Glen Kamara following an update from the Scottish club’s pre-season preparations, according to the Daily Record [page 49].

Daily Record journalist Scott McDermott wrote in the paper’s print edition on 30 July that Kamara has been told to train alone by Rangers boss Michael Beale after the midfielder fell out of favour with the Englishman in the latter half of last season.

Kamara has been put up for sale by the Glasgow club this summer and has coveted interest from around Europe, including in England with both Leeds and Southampton interested in his services.

The Yorkshire side look to be the Fin’s most likely destination, as Football Insider shared [25 July] that the two clubs are in advanced talks over the move. One would assume Kamara would instantly become a starter at Elland Road due to the club’s lack of depth in the centre of the park.

As things stand, it looks like Leeds will kick off the season opener against Cardiff City with new signing Ethan Ampadu playing alongside one of a number of youngsters, with 17-year-old academy graduate Archie Gray tipped by many to start.

Kamara was a regular at Rangers in their 2021 title-winning campaign under Steven Gerrard, becoming a fan-favourite with his efficiency and reliability at the base of their midfield playing a key role.

At this time, the Finnish midfielder had attracted interest from top Premier League sides, including Arsenal [Football Insider, 3 May 2021], with Kamara a previous academy graduate at the Emirates.

This is a display of how highly-regarded Kamara was at his best, and while a couple of years may have passed, Leeds could be the place for him to rediscover his best form.

The door is now wide open.

In other Leeds United news, the club have made contact over what would be the Championship signing of the year.
