‘Leeds United to sell Willy Gnonto’ as PSR red flag emerges at Elland Road
Leeds United may have to move some players on in the summer to comply with the Premier League’s PSR rules.
While fans of a Leeds persuasion will still be basking in the glory of their Championship win, those behind the scenes at Elland Road will already be hard at work.
The Whites have an astounding amount of work to do in preparation for life back in the Premier League, and much of that focus will come down to recruitment.
Several players have already been linked with a move to Leeds, but to adhere to the profit and sustainability rules, there may need to be some tough and fairly harsh decisions made.

Gnonto may have to be sacrificed this summer
Gnonto has an immense amount of ability, though Daniel Farke, for one reason or another, opted to use him from the bench often in the Championship.
Ahead of their step-up to the Premier League, it’s hard to see the Italian coming into the starting fold, and after Paul Robinson explained how Leeds need to adhere to the PSR rules, his sale may be one they need to look at, albeit reluctantly.
Competition (2024/25) | Appearances (starts) | Goals | Assists |
Championship | 43 (26) | 9 | 6 |
Still very young, Gnonto’s value will be very high, and if Farke isn’t going to use him in his starting 11, his exit may make the most sense from a financial perspective.
Farke is said to have a budget of £150million to spend this summer, though there will still need to be some big sales made in what promises to be a busy few months.

Leeds must tread carefully this summer
The financial restrictions in the Premier League make it even harder for promoted teams to find a way to compete, but if Leeds have ambitions of surviving, they need to do that.
Recruitment is going to be crucial for the Whites, and Farke needs to be backed with signings capable of taking this side into a top Championship one, to a side that can cement its status in the Premier League.
