Leeds United to sanction early Mateo Joseph return as he makes list with Real Madrid star
Leeds United could surely do with someone like Mateo Joseph right now as he thrives on loan at Mallorca.
The 22-year-old has been a key player for the La Liga outfit, who are in a relegation battle this season.
Daniel Farke was forced to let Joseph leave after the striker refused to turn up to pre-season training in the summer.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin was signed at Elland Road to bolster the attack, but the West Yorkshire outfit are missing a reliable goalscorer up front.

Mateo Joseph nominated for Under-23 La Liga player of October
Joseph has been nominated alongside Real Madrid midfielder Arda Guler for the La Liga Under-21 Player of the Month award for October.
The Leeds loanee has scored two goals and provided one assist in the two games he’s played for the Spanish outfit his month.
In the 2-1 loss to Athletic Bilbao on 4 October, the centre-forward came on as a substitute and provided an assist, while he scored a brace off the bench in Mallorca’s 3-1 win over Sevilla on 18 October.
As for Guler, he has been a key player for Xabi Alonso this season, scoring three goals and providing four assists in nine league appearances for Los Blancos.
Joseph is enjoying his spell at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix, which will be encouraging for Farke and the Whites’ hierarchy.
But the Spain Under-21 international’s services may be needed at Elland Road in January as the West Yorkshire outfit look to avoid an immediate drop to the Championship.
Daniel Farke has Joel Piroe priority at Leeds United
Farke has described Joel Piroe as the best finished he’s worked with, yet the German manager is struggling to fit him into the Peacocks’ new system.
Calvert-Lewin seems to be the former Norwich City boss’s preferred option in the number nine position, leaving him to fight for his minutes.
Player | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Dominic Calvert-Lewin | 7 | 1 | 0 |
Joel Piroe | 5 | 0 | 0 |
Ao Tanaka is another player who has seen his minutes diminish this season as Farke looks to implement a different system than last season that focuses on defensive solidity.
With the West Yorkshire outfit one of the lowest goalscorers in the Premier League in the 2025-26 campaign, the German manager has to find a way to bring the best out of Piroe.
