‘Leeds United to land James McAtee’ as Man City release official statement

James McAtee could be edging closer to a Leeds United summer transfer.

The England under-21 international has been linked with an Elland Road switch throughout the past 12 months, despite a move never going through.

Now, a deal could be back on the table for Daniel Farke’s side after a difficult campaign in the Premier League with the Citizens.

This could have taken a sizable step forward towards completion after the latest announcement coming out of the Etihad.

McAtee now set for Leeds United move

It is fair to say that Leeds are in desperate need of midfield reinforcements as they prepare for their first season back in the top flight since 2023.

This has already seen links to Habib Diarra at Strasbourg, who could be joined by the Man City academy graduate if a double deal can be agreed.

Although a deal for the Senegal international may be tougher to agree on, a deal for the Englishman may become much easier.

This comes after McAtee was left out of the Manchester City squad for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup alongside Jack Grealish.

The announcement from Pep Guardiola’s side could pique the interest of Farke in LS11 to the availability of the ex-Sheffield United loanee.

It is clear that his future isn’t at the Etihad, and this snub could represent the best opportunity for the Whites to complete their first signing of what is set to be a busy summer.

With the German head coach set to remain in his role in Yorkshire, he is likely to have a heavy say on who comes in and who goes out.

This could see prior targets like Emi Buendia come in from Aston Villa, with McAtee potentially set to follow suit as the window goes on.

Given that in what is essentially a pre-season tournament, the midfielder has been left out, things aren’t looking bright for the Premier League season.

By comparison, the 22-year-old could become a regular at Elland Road and fight on a weekly basis for a starting role with Brenden Aaronson.
