Leeds United to focus on new £15m midfield transfer after Kobbie Mainoo snub

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is expected to stay at Old Trafford amid interest from Leeds United.

With the England international currently sidelined with injury, and Bruno Fernandes dealing with his own fitness issues, the 20-year-old’s chances of leaving in the winter transfer window have decreased.

Leeds have been keeping tabs on Mainoo’s situation, with the midfielder falling down the pecking order since Ruben Amorim’s arrival.

While the addition of a forward is a priority for Daniel Farke at Elland Road, it looks like the German manager is also keen on bolstering the middle of the Park in January.

Leeds United to push for Al Hilal midfielder Ruben Neves

Al Hilal midfielder Ruben Neves is wanted by Leeds, with the Portugal international valued at £15million.

The midfielder’s current contract at the Riyadh club expires at the end of the season, and while he’s been offered a new deal, the Roshn Saudi League outfit are open to his sale in the coming weeks.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Whites turn their focus to the two-time UEFA Nations League winner with Mainoo’s exit looking unlikely.

According to The Sun on 2 January, the Englishman is determined to revive his career at Old Trafford despite a recent falling out with Amorim.

Neves would bring vast Premier League experience to the West Yorkshire outfit if he’s signed, which will undoubtedly be key to helping them avoid relegation.

Elland Road cut-price return could be on cards instead

Kalvin Phillips has been linked with a return to Elland Road, with the Manchester City midfielder’s career seeing a massive downslide since moving to the Etihad Stadium.

After some disappointing loan spells in recent seasons, the England international has made just one appearance under Pep Guardiola this season.

Phillips’ record at Leeds

The 30-year-old is contracted to the Sky Blues until 2028, but it doesn’t look like he has a future there.

Leeds sold Phillips to Man City for £42million, but they may be able to agree a cut-price return for the midfielder who will surely be attracted by the opportunity to kickstart his career at Elland Road.
