Leeds United summer signings rated – 4/10 underwhelming, 9/10 a gem

Leeds United managed to welcome 10 new arrivals to Elland Road this summer.

Despite Leeds’ failed end to the summer transfer window, there are positives to draw from their business as a whole.

Daniel Farke’s record in the Premier League showcases the fact that he is aware of the gulf in quality, and while the Whites underwhelmed in the latter stages, they certainly did some good business at the start of the summer.

With that in mind, MOT Leeds News rates the business done by Leeds.

Leeds have bolstered defensive options

Right at the start of the window, it was evident what Leeds had prioritised.

Lucas Perri, Jaka Bijol, Sebastian Bornauw and Gabriel Gudmundsson all made the move to Elland Road, with James Justin added to the squad on 25 August.

Gudmundsson replaced Junior Firpo, while Perri arrived to replace Illan Meslier, who was linked with a move to Valencia on deadline day.

Bijol and Bornauw are yet to make an appearance in the Premier League, though the former has certainly provided the biggest optimism boost of them all, given his performances in Serie A last season.

Concerns have started to emerge over Perri at Leeds, though it looks as though they have upgraded their defensive options significantly this summer elsewhere, with two clean sheets out of three.

Anton Stach has transformed Leeds’ midfield

Two new midfielders have arrived at Elland Road this summer, with Sean Longstaff making the move from Newcastle, and Anton Stach joining from Hoffenheim.

Longstaff has shown some signs of promise at Leeds, though the addition of Stach has blown his impact out of the water.

Since making his debut, Stach has shone for Leeds, and he certainly looks more comfortable playing in a more advanced role in the Premier League.

As for Longstaff, he has had to wait for his chance to showcase his worth, though his display against his former club last time out certainly sparked optimism.

Daniel Farke must work miracles with Leeds attacking options

Leeds failed to add any attackers to their squad in the final week of the window, despite Farke demanding them after the draw against Newcastle.

It leaves the Whites with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Joel Piroe and Lukas Nmecha as their striking options.

Noah Okafor could be a gem for Leeds, though concerns over his injury record have already emerged, and the failure to bring in a right-winger is worrying.

Largei Ramazani left to join Valencia, and had it been the other way around, he may well have been the best addition to this squad from an attacking perspective.

Calvert-Lewin certainly seems like it was a panic signing at Elland Road, and if his display against Sheffield Wednesday is anything to go by, it would be a long season for the 28-year-old.

Thankfully, time is on his side to prove that wrong.
