Leeds United star’s future to be decided within 48 hours after Daniel Farke decision

One Leeds player may be playing his future this weekend.

Leeds United travel to face Derby County in the FA Cup on Sunday, with Daniel Farke said to face one of the biggest dilemmas of the season so far.

Avoiding relegation from the Premier League is going to be the number one priority this season, but given the fact that Leeds have already secured some big results against the big teams, they may target a cup run.

Some changes will be made regardless, though Farke has already confirmed one, and it could be his chance to have his stay at Elland Road extended.

Leeds set to face Karl Darlow dilemma

Leeds suffered a 4-3 defeat against Newcastle United the last time out, despite having the lead in injury time.

A penalty saw the Magpies level the game, before a mistake from Lucas Perri after a shot from Harvey Barnes saw Eddie Howe’s side emerge with all three points.

Farke had no defence on this occasion for Perri, and the German has already confirmed that Karl Darlow will start in his place for this weekend’s FA Cup tie.

However, with the Wales international out of contract in the summer, this could be his last chance to stake a claim for a new deal at Elland Road.

Darlow has impressed when asked to step in in the past, and if he can do the same on Sunday, there will be conversations to be had over his contract situation.

Otherwise, it will be difficult to see Darlow remaining at Leeds past the current campaign.

Leeds still have burning transfer priority

Quite frankly, whether Darlow channels his inner Lev Yashin or not, Leeds simply need to sign a goalkeeper this month, and they need to get it right.

Illan Meslier nearly cost the Whites promotion last time out, and Perri could easily cost them safety this time around.

When taking into account the financial gulf between the two divisions, it would be a major oversight to let that happen.

It would, of course, require the 49ers to accept that they made an error regarding the signing of Perri, but that’s an error far easier to stomach than one that could easily see Leeds return to the Championship.
